If you are nervous patient and do not like the sounds, smells and tastes linked with dental care, please ask your dentist about sedation.
For intravenous sedation, a small sedative is administered via the back of your hand or your arm.
This sedative then induces a state of deep relaxation that will make you feel sleepy. You will also find that you won’t mind so much what is going on around you.
You will, however, need an escort to take you home and stay with you while you recover.
Intravenous sedation requires a qualified anesthetist and Sedation Solutions are our preferred partner in this specialist area where we work with Dr Andre von Backstrom. He comes to our surgery to sedate our patients during their treatment and we arrange this for you when you book sedation for your treatment.
Oral sedation is a well tried and tested method of sedation and our senior dentist, Nico van Rensburg BDS, is qualified to provide Oral sedation for our patients. No needles are used and you will be able to talk and respond to any instructions where necessary throughout your treatment and yet still feel relaxed and sleepy.
You will need to attend the surgery two hours before your appointment. Once the sedative has been administered, you will then relax in a quiet room and be monitored at regular intervals.
Again, you must arrange for an escort to take you home and stay with you while you recover.
Conscious sedation is a safe way to have pain free dentistry, you will be looked after by a highly qualified and experienced anesthetist.
We treat every patient as an individual and we take care to listen and understand your particular concerns.
If you do not want sedation but are nervous about the thought of needles, relax, we have a solution for you. We have a computer controlled system, The Wand, which provides painless injections for all routine dental treatment including root canals, crowns, fillings, and cleanings.
We know that some patients get more nervous than others at the mere sight of a needle and syringe. That’s where ‘The Wand’ comes in. It is a small lightweight hand piece that looks very similar to a pen.
The computer controlled system allows for an even-flow delivery of anaesthetic in a very comfortable, non-threatening manner. It eliminates the ‘stinging effect ‘- the painful consequence from a surge of fluid into a confined tissue area.
There are certain injections made possible with The Wand to minimize the unnecessary numbness of the tongue, cheek, and face.
The Wand provides painless injections for all routine dental treatment including root canals, crowns, fillings, and cleanings.
The computer-controlled local anaesthetics delivery system doesn’t look like a syringe. It doesn’t feel like a syringe. And, what’s more, it works better than a syringe resulting in a more pleasant experience.
Please ask your dentist about The Wand at your next visit.
Having been a patient for some years, it would be hard to find a more professional, yet friendly dental surgery. Being a small practice, you are welcomed almost as a friend, rather than as an anonymous patient. It is almost a pleasure to receive dental treatment! Nothing is too much trouble. Their timing is impeccable and an appointment time means just what it says. It would be virtually impossible to improve on the patients’ experience. With other services such as dental hygiene on offer at the same surgery, I have absolutely no intention of changing to any other practice. Very many thanks.
I have been a patient at Walton Dental Practice for 10 yrs and throughout that time I have experienced professionalism and courtesy from everyone. The dentistry offered is brilliant, from fillings to implants. All the staff are extremely kind, thoughtful & pleasant and nothing is too much trouble for them. Try Walton Dental Practice and see for yourself!!”
Catherine is an excellent dentist believing in prevention. I have been put completely at ease having been an extremely nervous patient all of my life. I cannot speak highly enough of her.
We were in our late seventies when our family dentist of many years retired. Without recommendation to help, took the plunge and asked Nicco for assessments. We thought the recommendations were sound. The reception was helpful, the atmosphere relaxed and friendly. Appointments were readily available to suit. Our new dentist inspired confidence. His work in repairing and stabilising Ken’s teeth, fitting several implants and providing knowledgeably designed dentures is successful and long lasting. Nancy’s denture is comfortable, effective and of pleasing appearance. Backup has been generous and effective. Good dentistry has its price. We are content with the value received. Own car park. Emergencies managed sympathetically.
I would like to say a big thank you for fixing my teeth, after I had an accident. I am really pleased with the results and nobody can tell the difference, which is what I wanted
