At Walton Dental Surgery, we can offer nervous patients conscious sedation for their treatment. The two treatments that we have on offer are intravenous sedation and oral sedation.

The technique of conscious sedation is designed to relax your during dental procedures and dental treatment.

Intravenous sedation

For intravenous sedation, a small sedative is administered via the back of your hand or your arm.

This sedative then induces a state of deep relaxation that will make you feel sleepy. You will also find that you won’t mind so much what is going on around you.

You will, however, need an escort to take you home and stay with you while you recover.

Intravenous sedation requires a qualified anesthetist and Sedation Solutions are our preferred partner in this specialist area where we work with Dr Andre von Backstrom. He comes to our surgery to sedate our patients during their treatment and we arrange this for you when you book sedation for your treatment.

Oral sedation

Oral sedation is a well tried and tested method of sedation and our senior dentist, Nico van Rensburg BDS,  is qualified to provide Oral sedation for our patients. No needles are used and you will be able to talk and respond to any instructions where necessary throughout your treatment and yet still feel relaxed and sleepy.

You will need to attend the surgery two hours before your appointment. Once the sedative has been administered, you will then relax in a quiet room and be monitored at regular intervals.

Again, you must arrange for an escort to take you home and stay with you while you recover.

Conscious sedation is a safe way to have pain free dentistry, you will be looked after by a highly qualified and experienced anesthetist.

We treat every patient as an individual and we take care to listen and understand your particular concerns.

Nervous About Injections

If you do not want sedation but are nervous about the thought of needles, relax, we have a solution for you. We have a computer controlled system, The Wand, which provides painless injections for all routine dental treatment including root canals, crowns, fillings, and cleanings.
